Robert Jenkins
Robert G. Jenkins was born
in Dallas, Texas July 21, 1938. Robert, better known as “Blackie” was an
accomplished musician and singer, forming his own band “ Blackie and the
Blackjacks”. While in Dallas, he worked in sales and became a certified
welder. In November 1983 he marred Freeda Lewis. They moved to Cherokee
Village, AR in 1998 where Blackie worked for the Highland School District
from which he retired in 2009. Blackie continued his music and singing
throughout his life time and was a member of the local “Hurricane Creek
Band”. Blackie was a member of the Divine Mercy United Pentecostal Church,
Cherokee Village where he served as a musician.
Blackie was preceded in death by his wife Freeda
Jenkins, March 11, 2009. He is survived by one Brother, Skip, of Dallas,
Texas and a special family friend, Frances Chamel, of Cherokee Village, AR.
Also a son, Jerry Lewis and wife Carolyn, one grandson, Jarrod Lewis and
wife Monica, one granddaughter, Kelly Middleton and husband Tom, two
great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Trever Lewis, all of Poplar Bluff, MO.
Blackie’s life was full of love and caring for others
and is evidenced by the number of his friends and associates.
Funeral arrangements are with the Heath Funeral Service
of Highland, AR. Services will be held at the Funeral Chapel, Tuesday,
February 1, 2011. Visitation will begin at 9:00AM with the funeral following
at 10:00AM. Interment will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Poplar
Bluff, MO at 2:00PM
