Lee Pummill
departed from this world at the age of 81 years old on
Sat. October 8, 2011 at the Ash Flat Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in
Ash Flat, AR.
Ray was born April 15, 1930 in Vandalia IL, The
son of Harold and Ruby Pummill. The son of a car dealership owner, he early
on developed his love for the automobile. He lived in Evansville, Indiana
for several years during World War II while his parents worked in a tank
factory. He graduated from Vandalia High School, and enlisted in the United
States Army, where he served as manager of a tank repair and salvage plant
in Japan during the Korean Conflict.
Ray returned to the States and worked as a
telegrapher for the railroad briefly, but decided to get his A & P license
to become an airline mechanic for Ozark Airlines, where he served for the
remainder of his career in St. Louis, MO. Ray married Norma Bernthal on
April 1, 1955. He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in
Bridgeton, MO, until he retired from the airlines in 1991 and moved to
Sunrise Beach, MO in the Lake of the Ozarks region, where he was able to
enjoy his boating hobby on a daily basis. Ray moved to Cherokee Village, AR
in 2007 to be closer to family, where he became a member of Peace Lutheran
Church.
Ray is survived by his three sons, David and
wife Louisa of Peoria, IL, Brian of Cherokee Village, AR, and Gary of San
Raphael, NM, nine grandchildren, an aunt and a niece, and many friends. He
was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his sister.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on
Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Peace Lutheran Church with Deacon Mike Davis
officiating.
